Cape Family Holiday

Six days of discovery and exploration for the family in northwest Sutherland, a stunningly beautiful and scenically diverse area that is still relatively undiscovered. An opportunity for you all to take part in a range of stimulating activities set in a unique location leaving you refreshed and keen for more…Suitable for families with children 8 years old and upwards.

Saturday We will meet you at the Rhiconich Hotel at 3.00pm. Drive to our car park; unload your equipment into our vehicle, then a 10 minute walk on footpath to Cape Adventure. (Please note it is not possible to drive to our base.) Settle in and meet our staff over a cup of tea at Cape Adventure, followed by an introductory walk to see the areas we will walk, climb and kayak during the week.

Sunday A Mountain Day Ben Stack (721m) and Strath Stack
Climb Ben Stack from the north side and descend southwards towards Achfary. Near the base of the mountain, pick up the path along Strath Stack, passing through woodland that leads to the upper Glen and back to your starting point.

Monday Climbing and Survival Skills
We rock climb and abseil in the morning on a natural crag wall. The climbs appeal to all levels and abilities. After lunch, essential survival skills are learnt for the children's night of Survival. They will learn how to build different types of bivvi, start a fire, find food and water.

Tuesday Sea Kayaking / Survival
A morning of learning skills and becoming familiar with the sea kayaks in Loch a' Chad-Fi, building up to a sea safari around the sheltered sea loch in the afternoon. "Survival" on an island for the night. This has been designed for the children and will involve making a camp, cooking, collecting wood for a fire and "surviving" for a night. They will be supervised at all times by our staff and will return to our base in the morning. Adults enjoy dinner and a quiet night in!

Wednesday A Coastal Walk (Sandwood Bay)
For the adults to enjoy a day walking together. Follow the cliff top from Sheigra, the most north westerly settlement of mainland Britain to Sandwood Bay with its wide sweep of golden sand. A former stopping off point for Viking long ships. Return across the moor along the old peat track.

Cape Challenge Children relax in the morning after a 'survivors' breakfast, then take part in the an entertaining day of problem solving, challenges, games and fun suitable for all ages, based at Cape Adventure.

Thursday A Beach Day
Land Yachting, Surfing, soft ball and other Beach games on Balnakeil Beach, Durness, one of the most beautiful golden sandy beaches in Europe. There is also a 9 hole golf course close to the beach for those who would like a round and an artists village with printmaker, woodworker, potter, good bookshop and cafe.

Friday Depart after breakfast

N.B. The programme may vary due to weather conditions

Evening Activities Evenings are often spent preparing for the following days' activities though there will also be time to read, draw, chat, play volleyball, table football, board games, go fishing or for a quiet walk or go to the local pub (adults!)

"Just a quick note to thank you and all the team at Cape Adventure for such an enjoyable holiday. The boys and I thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and I never thought I would ever see Theo swimming at 8am in a sea loch! The mix of activities, the food and the accommodation as well as a highly professional team makes for a great product and I hope it goes from strength to strength."
Bruce Bennison

"Thank you for a lovely week - we had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the activities, location, food, other guests, staff and, luckily the weather. I honestly did not think Justin at 9 years old would be skipping up Ben Stack catching frogs with his new friend Lena - not even noticing the steepness and length of the climb. George and my favourite part was the kayaking, Justin's the rock climbing and, I believe, Jonathan's the walking."
